Abstract
The expression levels of a range of candidate genes in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) cultured with passivated or non-passivated nitinol or stainless steel, were analyzed. The negative controls were observed to be cultured in wells only and positive controls were incubated with 100ng/ml of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The expression levels were determined by comparing the intensity of bands on agarose gels to actin. It was found that the genes were differentially expressed in cells grown in contact with biomaterials.
