Agreement between Ireland DXA FRAX and Web FRAX: Preliminary Results of the DXA-HIP Study

Research output: Contribution to a Journal (Peer & Non Peer)Articlepeer-review

Abstract

Background: The FRAX tool estimates the 10-year risk of major osteoporotic fracture (MOF) and hip fracture (HF), and is widely recommended by international professional guidelines. Aims: To compare the agreement between Web-FRAX and DXA-FRAX estimates of MOF and HF for Irish adults. Methods: DXA-FRAX(GE Lunar, version 3.8) estimates with BMD and Web-FRAX(version 4.0 for Ireland) estimates without BMD were collected. We used t-tests and Chi-square tests to compare baseline variables, and Cohens Kappa statistic to compare agreement between Web-FRAX and DXA-FRAX estimates of MOF and HF at thresholds of 20% and 3%. Results: 1758 adults were included. A summary of their characteristics is shown in Table 1. Men were older, taller, heavier, had fewer fractures but higher BMD than women. DXA-FRAX estimates were lower for men than women,
