Abstract

A Specific, sensitive and convenient Elisa for total IgA in serum, carried out on microtitre plates and based on commercially available reagents, was developed and extensively validated. The cross-reactivity of both IgG and IgM was much less than 0.1% and other serum proteins were undetectable. The detection limit was 0.18 ng/well or 90 micrograms/ml of serum, allowing for pre-dilution. Sera from normal (1.4-4.1 mg/ml), coeliacs (1.6-13.52 mg/ml) and IgA deficient individuals (0.05-0.4 mg/ ml) were analysed.
