Abstract

The East Carlow Deformation Zone has recently been identified along the eastern margin of the Leinster Granite, where it transects both the granite and the Lower Palaeozoic country rocks. It is recognized by a set of structures and intrusions which are characteristically associated with the zone. Using these features as guidelines, the probable course of the zone is traced southwest of the Leinster Granite and in the Slievenamon Inlier. Further west, diverse criteria are employed to recognize the possible extension of the zone as far west as Mitchelstown, where it is thought to merge with the South Ireland Lineament. -Authors
