10 tips for scientists on increasing childrens science confidence: practical recommendations to positively affect young peoples science self-efficacy

Research output: Chapter in Book or Conference Publication/ProceedingConference Publicationpeer-review

Abstract

Science self-efficacy (SSE) is a motivational construct that concerns how confident individuals feel about their science abilities. It is positively correlated with desirable outcomes such as interest, test performance, and aspiration. Scientists facilitating Public Engagement in Science activities are uniquely placed to contribute towards young peoples SSE through the provision of verbal praise and or modelling the correct behaviour to achieve success. Here we outline ten recommendations, tailored specifically for scientists, on how to positively affect young peoples SSE during hands-on activities.
