My research is focussed on characterising plant and algal cell walls with the aim of better understanding how: 1) their optimal composition has been impactedaltered during evolution and adaptation; 2) they are altered, in extant plants and algae, by biotic (e.g. the presence of pathogenspestsparasites) and abiotic (e.g. wind, drought, etc) stress and during the growth and development; 3) their components may be used in biotechnology. My teaching (1st-4th year undergraduate) reflects my research interests and I use a range of technologies with the aim of stimulating interest and supporting students with a range of learning styles.
