Biography

Zongyuan Li is a Lecturer in Financial Economics and Technology at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, University of Galway. His research primarily focuses on corporate finance, with particular attention to its interactions with external monitoring mechanisms and political activities. For example, his work examines:

  • the effects of financial regulation, external monitoring, and (geo)political uncertainties on corporate behavior; and
  • (ii) how firms employ various mechanisms to bypass regulation or external monitoring and to mitigate different risks.

His recent research extends to the use of geospatial information to provide more granular insights into corporate and household behavior.

Zongyuan holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Macau, an M.Sc. in Finance from ISCTE–Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, and a bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Xi’an Jiaotong University. Before joining the University of Galway in 2024, he taught at Wenzhou-Kean University and Dalian Maritime University, and served as a part-time CFA lecturer at the Golden Education Institute.

My research primarily explores financial economics, with a focus on:
(1) The impact of financial regulation and political uncertainties on companies
(2) How firms employ various mechanisms to navigate regulations and mitigate political risks.
