Biography
Tiba Bonyad is a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC-funded BILQIS (Building Conceptual and Methodological Expertise for the Study of Gender, Agency, and Authority in Islam) project at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway. Before joining BILQIS, Tiba was a postdoctoral researcher on the SALAAM project at University of Limerick and a teaching fellow in the Near and Middle Eastern Studies Department at Trinity College Dublin. Tiba was awarded a PhD in Sociology from University of Manchester in 2023, with no academic corrections. Her PhD project, fully funded by University of Manchester, investigated the gendered biopolitics of assisted reproductive technologies, particularly egg donation, in Iran. Tiba won the 2024 Leigh Douglas Memorial Prize for the best PhD dissertation on a Middle Eastern topic among British Universities. She holds two master's degrees in Gender Studies (Central European University) and Communication Studies (Free University of Brussels), as well as two undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Communication Studies from University of Tehran.
Research Interests
Her areas of expertise include feminist theory, legal sociology, sociology of gender and sexuality, and qualitative methodologies.
