Biography

Professor Ted Vaughan is Professor in Biomedical Engineering and Interim Director of the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation at University of Galway. He was awarded a BE (2007) and PhD (2011) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Galway and spent time as a Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Notre Dame. Since his appointment as a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering in 2015, his research has focussed on fundamental and applied topics in orthopaedic and cardiovascular biomechanics. His work has been funded by the European Research Council, focusing on clinical challenges related to bone fragility. He has also collaborated extensively with the medical technology industry, coordinating several Horizon Europe consortia projects in emerging medical implant technologies.
