Soumyadipta Kundu

Soumyadipta (Shoumo) is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Prof. Michael O’Dwyer at the Translational Research Facility, School of Medicine. He previously completed an Industrial PhD in Cancer Immunotherapy (2021-2025) through the Irish Research Council Employment-Based Programme in collaboration with ONK Therapeutics Ltd. and the University of Galway. His doctoral research focused on NK cell isolation, expansion, genetic engineering, functional characterization, and translational preclinical study design targeting Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Shoumo holds an M.Sc. in Cellular Manufacturing and Therapy from the University of Galway (2019-2020), an M.Sc. in Biological Sciences from Presidency University, Kolkata, India (2013-2015), and a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Calcutta, India (2010-2013).

His research interests center on the development of engineered natural killer (NK) cell therapies for haematological malignancies and solid tumours. His work involves the use of NK cells derived from healthy donors or umbilical cord blood, which are genetically modified using non-viral engineering approaches and CRISPR-based technologies to enhance therapeutic efficacy and functionality.
