Biography

I am Lecturer in French and Final Year Coordinator of the BA programme in French. I come from Co. Down and studied French and Russian ab initio at Brasenose College, Oxford. I received an M.St in French and Russian from Brasenose College, Oxford and then a doctorate on the autobiographical writing of Vladimir Nabokov, Georges Perec and Patrick Chamoiseau from Oriel College, Oxford. I held Stipendiary Lectureships in French at Oriel College, Hertford College and St Johns College, Oxford. I was Lecturer in French at the University of Kent from 2017 before coming to Galway in 2022.My research interests are in comparative literature, world literature, Caribbean writing in French, Russian modernism andémigré writing, and translation and memory studies. I am currently working on a monograph which asks if Caribbean literary theory can help us understand texts, bande desinnée and film on contemporary migration across the Mediterranean.I teach French language, literature and film, Caribbean writing and bande desinnée and subtitling.
