I have a BSc in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from University College Cork where my PhDresearch led to the discovery that mutations in the ryanodine receptor were responsible for the inherited disorder Malignant Hyperthermia. I then moved to the UK and carried out postdoctoral work at Cancer Research UK, Cambridge University before moving tothe University of Milan, Italy where my research focused on cell cycle regulation and the cellular response to DNA damage. My work has been published in journals such a Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, BMJ etc. (see a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=https:scholar.google.comcitations?user=1HNlqTsAAAAJ amp;hl=en amp;oi=aohttps:scholar.google.comcitations?user=1HNlqTsAAAAJ amp;hl=en amp;oi=ao ) Iwent on to work as a staff scientist in a multinational pharmaceutical company (Pharmacia PfizerNerviano Medical Sciences) in Italy where I set up a microarray lab to study compounds the company was developing as novel anti-cancer treatments. I returned to Ireland in 2008 and took up a teaching position in the Biochemistry Dept of the University of Galway before moving into research support. I have been managing EU and national research programmes since 2015 and am currently the Programme Manager of the SFI Centre for Research Training in Genomics Data Science.
