Biography
Dr Richard Manton is the Director of Sustainability at University of Galway, Ireland's leading university for sustainability and a National SDG Ambassador. He was previously the Registrar at Engineers Ireland and a Non-Executive Director at Bus Éireann. He was also a lecturer and researcher in transportation, energy and environment at University of Galway, and a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley and LMU Munich.
Richard is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow with a BE in civil engineering, MA in financial management, PhD in sustainable transportation and a professional diploma in digital transformation management. He is an advocate for sustainability and higher education, serving as a member of the CIÉ Board Sustainability Committee, Royal Irish Academy Engineering & Computer Sciences Committee and the Engineers Ireland West Region Committee.
Research Interests
Multidisciplinary environmental research; energy efficiency; transport and environmental planning and policy; traffic engineering; urban design; politics of planning and mobility; walking, cycling and greenways; safety of vulnerable road users; community involvement in planning and design.
