Our research is concerned with using organic synthesis to prepare new glycomimetic ligands for various lectins. Currently we are interested in galectins, siglec-8, macrophage galactose C-type lectin and multivalent ligands. We are also interested in fundamental organic chemistry and development of synthesis methods to glycomimetics. We are investigating sustainable synthesis routes to compounds we prepare. Research in the Murphy group is currently financially supported by Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland).

I would be interested in 2026 recruiting PhD candidates highly motivated by Organic Chemistry and including mechanistic study and who are interested to develop sustainable routes to compounds of biological interest. I will support at least one high quality candidate for applications to Research Ireland in the Government of Ireland PhD Scholarship Program which opens in August 2025. I will also support Postdoctoral Candidate interested in our research and willing to apply for their own fellowship.
