Biography

Dr. Noha Atef - Lecturer in Journalism (Global Media)Noha Atef is a researcher and lecturer of journalism and media studies, with a particular focuson citizen journalism, social media, and digital communities in Arab contexts. She earned herPhD in Media from Birmingham City University, where she explored the interactions betweencitizen and mainstream media during Egypts transformative period of 2011-2013. Dr. Atef alsoholds an MA in Social Media from the same institution.With teaching and research experience in the UK, Canada, and Egypt, Dr. Atef employs aninterdisciplinary approach to media studies that integrates both theoretical frameworks andpractical applications. Her expertise spans digital ethnography, data analysis, and mediarepresentation. Her research areas also include health communication, media activism, andsocial media influencers. Dr. Atef is the author of The Media of People: Between theState-Owned Media amp; Citizen Media, a work widely referenced in Arab university libraries.Beyond academia, Dr. Atef is actively involved in industry-focused initiatives. She hascollaborated with organizations in the Arab region, Sub-Mediterranean countries, and globally toaddress pressing issues such as media representation, misinformation, and hate speech.Notably, she has worked with organizations like the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism(ARIJ), the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and the Centre forInformation Resilience (CIS).
