Biography

Muhammad Asif Razzaq is a Post-doctoral researcher at the Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics, University of Galway. He is actively involved in the EU Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) project, where he is a leading a task (T4.2) and contributes to multiple work packages. His individual research within the DSSC focuses on data interoperability, core design principles, and best practices necessary for building robust data spaces.

Dr. Asif holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Kyung Hee University (Global Campus), South Korea. His doctoral work focused on specialization in statistical data modelling with the proposal of the Semantic Data Imputation technique as a core topic. He has demonstrated success in advanced areas such as context-aware computing, unobtrusive human activity recognition using thermal vision sensors, semantic web technologies, multimodal data fusion, and semantic data imputation. He is also adept at integrating and governing data spaces within complex, multi-stakeholder environments—ensuring data sovereignty and alignment with global/EU standards. With intensive experience spanning academia and industry, He also specialises in data management, ETL processes, OBI dashboard design, data analytics, reporting, and deployments. His skillset spans system engineering, business intelligence, software development, requirements analysis, and project management.

Dr. Asif led the Korean-funded Project PaMM (Patient Monitoring and Management – Medication Adherence), developing AI-driven solutions to enhance patient outcomes. He also contributed to the EU H2020-funded Project REMIND, applying computational techniques to improve reminder compliance for dementia patients in smart environments, a collaboration between Kyung Hee University, South Korea and Ulster University, Belfast, UK. He also worked on several other Korean-funded projects, including IMS-TEIN (Intelligent Medical Services Over TEIN), IMP (Intelligent Medical Platform), Mining Minds (A Personalised Health and Wellness Platform), advancing AI applications in personalised healthcare.

Dr. Asif has a growing portfolio of research publications in different phases of the data life cycle, reflecting contributions to fields like data modelling, predictive analytics, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Foundation Models, GenAI and finally data spaces covering every challenging aspect pertaining to data. He is also highly experienced in proposal writing, research publications, patent applications, and standards development, with a strong track record in tackling complex research and comparative studies. He has published 16 Journals, 24 Conferences, 02 Korean Patents, and 04 Korean Standards.

Dr. Asif has extensive teaching experience, having designed and delivered high-quality courses in Data Mining, Data Science, Advanced DBMS, and Data Warehousing. These courses are carefully aligned with industry demands and the latest trends in Business Analytics and AI. At Iqra University, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in Pakistan, and Kyung Hee University (KHU) in South Korea, he pioneered innovative online data-oriented courses. These courses seamlessly integrate theoretical foundations with hands-on projects, covering the entire data lifecycle, including data acquisition, wrangling, and modelling. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Asif has supervised final-year undergraduate and Master’s theses, advising research-oriented skills and guiding students to develop their capabilities.

Dr. Asif maintains strong interests in pervasive computing, semantic technologies, knowledge modelling, Knowledge sharing, ontologies, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI, with a focus on research that bridges the gap between academia and industry.
