Mihailo Mirkovic

Originally from Montenegro, I have conducted by undergraduate and master’s in the subject area of molecular biology and physiology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. I have conducted my PhD in Portugal, at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia, in the laboratory of Raquel Oliveira, where I studied the interplay between mitotic fidelity and sister chromatid cohesion defects, and their effect on cell fate and development in the fruit fly. I have conducted my postdoc at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in the laboratory of Yves Barral, where I studied the interplay between ageing, RNA processing and chromosome instability in budding yeast. During my postdoc, I received the EMBO and ETH postdoctoral fellowship. From April 2026 onwards, I will be leading my own group at the Centre for Chromosome Biology, at the University of Galway, Ireland. Main research area involves the interplay between stress, changes to RNA processing, and how do these phenomena drive chromosome instability and adaptation in fungi. My research is funded by the Wellcome Trust Career Development Award.
