Personal profile

Biography

CAUTION: THIS ENTIRE SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.  Owing to continuing IT problems outside my control, these pages are seriously inaccurate and untrustworthy. Many publications do not appear where they should, and there are other misleading items that have been generated autonomously with no input or authorisation from myself.

Research Interests

My research is located in three overlapping fields: (a) Togail Troi, the Middle Irish narrative of the Trojan War; (b) medieval myth and poetics in relation to Antiquity; (c) medieval Irish language and literature in their global context. My principal long-term project is editing the unpublished Third Recension text of Togail Troí from the manuscripts. Two major sections have appeared so far as articles in Ériu.

Teaching Interests

My principal interests are in historical literature and language studies,  with particular reference to Greek, Latin, and medieval Irish, all seen in the context of the transnational study of human cultural development. Historical philology and manuscript studies are my chief modes of work.
