Biography

CAUTION: THIS ENTIRE SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.  These pages were generated autonomously by an AI-driven system with no input or authorisation from myself. As a result, much of the content is extremely inaccurate and misleading. Pending correction or deletion, all sections below should be ignored except "Research interests" and the lists of publications, which I have corrected manually as a stopgap solution.

Research Interests

My research is located in three overlapping fields: (a) Togail Troi, the Middle Irish narrative of the Trojan War; (b) medieval languages and literatures in relation to those of Mediterranean Antiquity, with a special focus on Irish heroic saga and poetry; (c) comparative study of epic and heroic narrative traditions, especially in Greek, Latin, and Babylonian, and of their successors and analogues in Celtic and Germanic languages. My principal long-term target text is the largely unpublished third recension of Togail Troi. My editing and translation work on this text is part of a wider study of medieval Irish learning and literature in the wider context of medieval European manuscript culture.

Teaching Interests

My principal interests are in historical literature and language studies,  with particular reference to Greek, Latin, and medieval Irish, all seen in the context of the transnational study of human cultural development. Historical philology and manuscript studies are my chief modes of work.
