Biography

Dr. Michael Flanagan is a Research Fellow at the University of Galway, specializing in advanced composite materials for aerospace, renewable energy, and space applications. He holds a Ph.D. focused on the application of composite technologies for cryogenic storage systems.

Prior to his current role, Michael served as an Engineering Manager in a research-driven composites company, where he led projects spanning high-performance structures for aerospace and renewable sectors. His current research primarily investigates the mechanical behavior and durability of composite structures in renewable energy systems, with an emphasis on experimental testing and performance optimization.

Michael has a strong interest in additive manufacturing and the integration of 3D printing technology into the manufacture of composite structures, aiming to advance lightweight, sustainable, and high-strength solutions for next-generation applications. Alongside his research, he has contributed to teaching and mentoring and fostering knowledge transfer between academia and industry.
