Dr Maureen Kelly is a registered General Practitioner, Associate Professor and Lead of Undergraduate General Practice (GP) teaching in the School of Medicine. She holds a Masters in Medical Education (Dundee 2003) and a PhD (University of Galway) in 2015. In 2012, she was awarded Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, UK. From 2017-2022 she served as Vice Dean for Civic Engagement, in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and spear headed the first multi-professional civic engagement committee and programme of work. She has twenty-five years of experience as a clinical educator at undergraduate, postgraduate and faculty development levels. She worked as Associate Programme Director of the Western GP Training Scheme for 20 years, where she had a special interest in the professional development of GPs and capacity building in academic GPresearch. Her areas of expertise include General Practice education and training,selection and recruitment of medical students, widening participation in health professions education, civic engagement and faculty development of GP educators. Her clinical interest is in social inclusion and healthcare.She has led on several national collaborations, with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) including her role as Working Group Chair and Lead author of the joint AUDGPIICGP report - Medical Student to General Practitioner- An urgent call to action (2023).
