Biography

Dr Mary Hopkins is a Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice in the Discipline of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, College of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a registered pharmacist (MPSI) with over 12 years of professional experience spanning community pharmacy practice, clinical service delivery, and preclinical and translational research.

Dr Hopkins holds a PhD in Neuropharmacology from the University of Galway, where her doctoral research investigated the role of the endocannabinoid system in chronic low back pain. Her research interests include pain pharmacology, cannabinoids, translational neuroscience, and the integration of evidence-based research into pharmacy practice and education. She has published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work at national and international conferences.

Alongside her academic role, Dr Hopkins continues to practise as a community pharmacist, delivering primary care services and contributing to health promotion initiatives. This dual academic and practice perspective informs her teaching, which emphasises clinical relevance, regulatory awareness, and patient-centred care. She has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, student supervision, and curriculum development across pharmacy and pharmacology programmes.

Dr Hopkins is actively developing early-career research funding applications focused on pharmacy practice innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration
