PhD. MSc. Eng. B.EngData Scientist and IoT-M2M Semantic Interoperability ExpertNational University of Ireland Galway (NUI-Galway)Adjunct Lecturer position at NUIGalway and is Guest Lecturer at SCU in Silicon Valley, Santa ClaraCa. USA. He also has Lectures at California State University SLO, Ca, USA andTUB, Berlin and FBK-CREATE Netin Trento,Italy. A recognized expert on Semantic Interoperability for Distributed Systemsand has also contributed to defining the Data Interplay in Edge Computing using the Linked Data paradigm, in both works, he hasgot awards for his Scientific ContributionPublic - No restrictionations. He has advanced the state of the art in Pervasive Computing using semantic dataModelling and Context Awareness methods to extend the Autonomics parading for networking systems. He also has contributed to enriching the Information andKnowledge Engineering area using Semantics and Ontologies for describing data and services relationsin Autonomic Computing. He is a pioneer and visionaryinproposing that Semantic Technologiesapplied to Policy-based Management Systems can be used as an approach to producecognitive applicationscapable of understanding, service and application events, controlling the pervasive services life cycle. His research interests are onDistributed Systems, Security and Privacy, Ontology Engineering, Semantic Web, Linked Data and Information Modelling, Data Interoperability, Policy-Based Management, and Autonomics(self-organization, and self-management.). He is actively investigatingCloud Computing Services Management,Semantic-based Cloud Infrastructures Control, andBig Data Management. He is also investigatingCyber-Physical Systems Control, Sensor Networks, andTheInternet of Things (IoT)and their large-scaledeployment using Cloud environments. He has published in international conferences (IEEE UIC,IEEE ICC, etc.), international journals (IEEE Wireless Magazine,IEEE Pervasive Computing, etc.), and several book chaptersin the cited domains. He has served as a reviewer of various high-impact journals, including, IEEE Network Magazine,IEEE Transaction on Wireless Magazine,IEEE Transactions on Networks and Service Management, etc. He is the author of the academic book AppliedOntology Engineering in Cloud Services, Networks, and Management Systemspublishedby Springer USA. He has extensive experience on Technical and General Management levels of Irish National (HEA Futurecomm, SFI FAME) and European collaborative Projects (IST CONTEXT, IST AutoI, ICT OpenIoT, ICT OpenIoT-Enlarged, ICT Vital, ICT BIG IoT, ICT ACTIVAGE) and also Experiments in European Platforms (SSCFed4FIRE) and also as active research member for European Research Networks of Excellence (EMANICS, MAGIX,etc). He is an active member ofIEEE (Computer and Communication Societies) andACM. He is a continuous contributor for the EuropeanCommission DG-CNECT for defining theResearch and Innovation Agenda for Europe, acting as an expert andassisting the European Commission in the definition of Horizon 2020 and FP9Horizon Europeprogram.Latest:(2023 Best Academic Research Impact - Alliance for the Internet of Things Innovation, AIoTI, Belgium BE)(2021 H-KPI Explorer Frameworks Standard - National Institute for Standards and Technology, Washington,USA(2020 Next Generation Internet Explorers Award - Best International Research Project, EU-USA)(2019 European Citizens Science Association and citizens-science.ie national initiative, Galway,IE) (2018 RyanAward for InnovationNominee -National University of Ireland Galway, Ireland)(2018 Presidents Young ResearcherAward Nominee - National University of Ireland Galway, Ireland)(2018 50 BestSmart City Projects in the World award- SCCNIST, US ignite, Kansas City, Mo.USA) (2017 IEEE Communications Society, IoT Experimental Platforms Chapter Chair) (2016 Technical Leader GalwaySmart City - Global City team Challenge endorsed byNIST-USA)(2015 Listed in25 Key People Influencing the Internet of Things- Silicon RePublic - No restriction Media, Ireland)(2015 Research Excellence Presidents Award Nominee - Science Foundation Ireland, Ireland)(2014 Outstanding Academic Achievement Nominee - Irish Software Association, Ireland)(2013 Best Open Source Platform for the Internet of Things Award - BlackDuck Company, USA) In the past:Head, Research Scientist of European Projects, Coordinator andIndustryPI, Project Leaderat Sensor Middleware Unit (USM) Coordinator andPrincipal Investigators Team member at the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group, and Researcherat Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
