Biography

Professor Martin Hogg was appointed as an Established Professor and Dean of the University of Galway School of Law in November 2021. He was previously Professor of the Law of Obligations and Dean of the Edinburgh Law School in Scotland. Professor Hogg's main academic interests lie in all aspects of the law of obligations, with a recent focus on comparative obligations law, the law of contract and promise, the fundamental structural language of the law of obligations, and restatements and codifications of the law. He is a member of the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law. Professor Hogg served as one of the two Co-Presidents of the Law Schools Global Leaguebetween 2021 and 2023. He is a (non-practising) member of the Faculty of Advocates (the Scottish Bar).
