Biography
I am a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. During the period 2019-2023 I was a Royal Society-Science Foundation Ireland University Research Fellow based at the University of Galway. More information about my research is available at https:markhoward.info
Research Interests
I am interested in quantum information theory, including
- Quantum Error-Correction and Fault-tolerance
- Stabilizer formalism (generalization to d-level systems, quantum error-correcting codes, Gottesman-Knill theorem)
- Clifford group (and classical simulability, representation via SL(2,p))
- Magic state distillation
- Quantum Foundations
- Discrete Wigner functions (negative quasiprobabilities, Galois fields, relationship with G-K theorem)
- Mutually unbiased bases, SIC-POVMs, quantum Bayesianism
- Nonlocality & Contextuality
- Quantum Circuit Simulation
- Quantum Software
