Personal profile

Biography

Originally from France, I started my academic journey at the Khâgne and Hypokhâgne sections of the Lycée Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand where I fell in love with literature and languages. I graduated in French and English and later obtained a Masters in English at the Université Blaise Pascal. I then pursued further studies at the University of Galway and completed a Masters in French (2004) and a PhD in French (2009). I worked on various fixed-term contracts at the University of Galway, before moving to the UK in 2013 where I held lectureships and head of Discipline roles at the universities of Sunderland, Durham, Leicester, and De Montfort. In 2024, I moved back to Ireland to join the University of Galway, where I am now a Lecturer in French and teach literature, culture, and language. My academic interests lie in women and queer writings, gender studies, and secondary zone literature. More particularly, I examine how French and Francophone texts tackle topics such as gender, sexuality, ecocriticism, ecofeminism, and power dynamics. I have also carried out research projects on foreign languages teaching and learning methods, educational policies, equality and diversity in the curriculum, and the integration of technology in language pedagogy. I welcome MA and PhD proposals in the above areas or related fields.

Research Interests

Originally specialised in French literature of the long 19th century, I examined womens writings to identify early features of contemporary queer and gender theories in their work. My PhD dissertation and first monograph were entitled L'Identité de genre dans les écrits de George Sand et Colette. My research interest has since expanded to 20th and 21st centuries Francophone women and queer writings, gender studies, and secondary zone literature.

I have received funding for the following projects:

  • 2020-2023: De Montfort University English Research Institute Awards: Remapping French Literature through the Rediscovery of Rural Female writings (four short projects).
  • 2021: British Academy and Leverhulme Trust Small Grants: Reclaiming Secondary Zone Female Voices Towards a Remapping of Literary canons.
