Biography

Maria Kokkinou studied social anthropology at University of the Aegean (Mytilene, Greece), then obtained her masters degree and doctorate in social anthropology in Paris, at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). Her research focuses on forced migration in Eastern Europe in the 20th century.

During her post-doctoral studies (2020-2021) at CEFRES (Centre Français de Recherche en Sciences Sociales - Prague), she participated as a member of the project De-imperial Europe: A Resentful Confederation of Vanquished Peoples?, which was carried out as part of the TANDEM programme developed by the Czech Academy of Sciences, Charles University and CEFRESCNRS. '

In parallel with the BILQIS project, she is taking part in the Passés dExil project (under the direction of Evelyne Ribert CNRSEHESS) on the reception of refugees in the Paris region, as well as in the project financed by the Ecole francais dAthènes (2022-2026) Soundscapes and memories of exile: radio broadcasts by refugees from the Greek Civil War (a target=_blank rel=nofollow href=https:www.efa.grsection-categoriememoires-de-lexilhttps:www.efa.grsection-categoriememoires-de-lexil ) She is a member of the Institut Convergences Migrations in Paris and a research associate at the Laboratoire de lAnthrpologie Politique (LAP), EHESS, Paris.
