Biography
Maeve is a lecturer in Human Resource Management and Decent Work, a former Exec. MBA Programme Director and is also the Management Discipline Research and PhD Programme Director at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, University of Galway, Ireland. Prior to this, she was a lecturer and MSc in Human Resource Management programme director at University College Cork. With an academic career spanning over 15 years, Maeve researches and lectures in a variety of human resource management, organisational behavior, leadership and management-related subjects. Previously, Maeve held senior management and consultancy roles in both public and private sector organisations in Ireland, the UK and at the European Commission in Brussels. This experience has led to a wide range of research and consultancy interests relating to the UN Sustainable Development Goals including labour market equality, decent work and green HRM policies and practices.
Maeve advises the Irish Government and Low Pay Commission on workplace and employment issues including:
- the evolution and impact of remote and hybrid working in Ireland;
- the provision of decent work to care workers;
- the provision of a qualitative research study examining workplace experiences of parents dealing with pregnancy loss ( joint collaboration project with trans-disciplinary UCC colleagues).
Research findings are disseminated through leading high-ranking, peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, podcasts, media engagements and at national and international conferences. Research outputs has been nominated for best paper at the XI International Workshop in HRM in Seville (2018). In addition, among others, Maeve is a peer reviewer for a number of high-ranking peer-reviewed journals including the Human Resource Management Journal (ABS4*), is an associate member of the CIPD, a registered psychometric tester with the British Psychological Society and a French speaker.
Research Interests
Labour market inequalities are growing. Maeve's research to date has been primarily centred on identifying the factors influencing these inequalities and finding multi-level, impactful solutions to inform policy and improve individual work and organisational performance. Specific scholarship strands relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goals including labour market equality, decent work and green HRM policies and practices. Explicit research interest focuses on poor quality employment (part-time, precarious and gig economy work) as well as low-paid sectors of the economy and inequalities in the labour market, pertaining to gender, age and access to decent work. Additional research project involvement includes exploring attitudes to and experiences of menopause in the workplace and working as part of a team to explore pregnancy loss in Workplaces: Informing policymakers on support mechanisms.
