Biography

I am a college lecturer in Italian and Childrens Studies at NUI Galway. I introducedthe BA Connect with Childrens Studies to the University in 2008 and I was a co-program designer of the BA Childrens Studies which came on stream in 2015. Iwas Director of the BA Connectbetween 2008-2015.I believe that creativity and critical thinking should be at the heart of education at all levelsand it is my mission to foster these as best I can in my teaching, research and community involvement. I am a firm supporter of the integration of theArts in education and my research focuses on Italian childrens literature and culture,comparative childrens literature and film, aesthetic educationand innovative pedagogical approaches.I played a pivotal role in the establishment of Cuan na Gaillimhe Community National School (formerly Galway Steiner National School) in 2015 and served asChairperson of the Board of Management of Galway Steiner National School, Knocknacarra until 2017.

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests include nineteenth and twentieth-century childrens literature and film, fantasy literature , picturebooks adaptation, twentieth-century Italian childrens literature and society, twentieth-century Italian literature, Italian language from beginners to advanced and childrens literature in translation.
