Biography
Dr. KM Saif-Ur-Rahman specialises in evidence synthesis and health research methods, holding the position of Director of Ireland GRADE Network, Evidence Synthesis Methods Lead at Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Cochrane Ireland, Senior Research Fellow at Center for Health Research Methods, University of Galway, and Honorary Research Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Galway. Initially trained as a physician, Saif pursued further training in epidemiology and evidence synthesis, completing his Ph.D. at Nagoya University with a focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and geriatric epidemiology.
His research spans infectious and chronic diseases in resource-poor settings, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods. A prolific author, Saif has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles (h-index 35; i10-index 64) and led numerous systematic reviews, including those for Cochrane. He is adept in various evidence synthesis methodologies such as systematic reviews, scoping reviews, rapid reviews, and evidence gap maps.
Saif has conducted numerous training sessions in evidence synthesis across Bangladesh, Japan, and Ireland, enhancing the capabilities of researchers, academics, and health professionals. He is the module lead for 'Searching, Synthesising and Appraising Evidence' in the MSc in Evidence-Based Future Healthcare at the University of Galway. His leadership extends to founding the Systematic Review Centre in Bangladesh and the Primary Health Care Research Consortium.
Additionally, he is an associate editor for BMC Systematic Reviews and a member of the GRADE working group. Saif also serves as Vice-Chair of the Research Ethics Committee at the University of Galway.
