Biography
Katy Flanagan is a Lecturer in Health Promotion and serves as Practice Education Coordinator for the BA in Social Care programme at the University of Galway. Since 2016, she has been actively involved in the education and mentorship of both MA and BA students in the field of Health Promotion. She has also contributed to student development as the Academic Practice Placement Officer for the Children’s Studies programme at the University of Galway.
Katy holds a Master’s degree in Health Promotion and a CELT Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning, both awarded by the University of Galway. She also earned a BA in Social Care Practice from TUS Athlone.
With over a decade of professional experience in the Social Care sector, Katy has worked extensively with young people and families presenting with complex needs. Her work has spanned multidisciplinary team environments and residential care settings. Additionally, she has contributed to community and disability services through research, service evaluation, and the design and implementation of targeted interventions.
Katy is deeply committed to supporting students in achieving academic and professional success. She actively engages in continuous professional development to enhance her teaching and mentoring practices. Her research interests centre on experiential learning in practice placements, with a particular focus on identifying and addressing barriers and challenges encountered by students during these critical learning experiences.
