PhD projects

I lead the Unit for Linguistic Data at the Data Science Institute and I am also part of the SFI ADAPT Centre and the Insight SFI Centre for Data Analytics. My research is at the intersection of natural language processing (NLP) and data science. A particular area of interest is in the development of new resources especially for under-resourced languages around the world. I have a particular interest in the development of lexicographic resources including dictionaries, wordnets and similar and I am the chair of the OntoLex Community Group. I am also interested in how machine learning and other aspects of NLP can be adapted to resource-poor settings, especially in multilingual settings such as those of machine translation. Part of my work involves the development of linked data technologies and how these can be applied to linguistic resources and I am interested in the long-term storage and interoperability of data. Finally, much of my work connects with linguistic research and I am involved in digital humanities projects relating to the development of linguistic data.
