Biography

Prof. John Carey received his medical degree from U.C.D. in 1993, and completed his postgraduate training in the USA at Tufts University Medical School, Boston (1994-1995),Boston University Medical Centre (1995-1998), The Cleveland Clinic (2003-2007) and Case Western Reserve University (M.S., 2004-2006). As a consultant physician on Cape Cod in Internal Medicine he was voted number 1 doctor(2002)and number 1 doctors office (2002 amp; 2003). He was a consultant physician in the Department of Rheumatic Diseases, and Centre for Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease, at the Cleveland Clinic prior to returning to Galway University in 2007. He has a subspecialty clinical interests in osteoporosis, arthritisandvasculitis. He is a Fellow member of the American College of Rheumatology,The Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, and an established member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research,The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) and International Osteoporosis Foundation. Heis currently President-Elect of the ISCD andwas recently appointed to the Committee for Scientific Affairs for the International Osteoporosis Foundation.He was promotedto Personal Professor in Medicine at NUIG in 2015 in recognition of his research and educational contributions.He has severalongoing clinical researchprojects ongoing related to epidemiology, co-morbidityand outcomes of arthritis, osteoporosis and vasculitis, diagnostic testing andelectronic health information.He has published 5 book chapters on osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and over 30 peer-reviewed original scientific Public - No restrictionations. His other interests include sports and music.
