Biography

John Currie is a lecturer in Accounting and Director of the Master of Accounting programme at the University of Galway. He sets examination papers for the Instuitute of Certified Public Accountants and has been external examiner at a number of third level institutions in Ireland and the UK. He is a graduate of University of Galway and University College Dublin, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA).

He has previously been a lecturer at University College Cork and a visiting lecturer at several European universities. He also has significant experience of working with small businesses in Ireland and Poland. His main teaching interests are in management accounting at masters and final year undergraduate levels. He has participated in successful research funding applications to the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He is author or co-author of 10 refereed publications in aspects of management accounting and accounting education.

Management accounting (including activity-based management, revenue management, and strategic management accounting), student stereotypes of accountants and accounting.

Teaching Interests

John’s main teaching interests are in management accounting at masters and final year undergraduate levels. John has previously been a lecturer at University College Cork and a visiting lecturer at several European universities. Recent teaching experience includes:

  • Management accounting (postgraduate and final year undergraduate levels).
  • Examiner in Strategic Performance Management, Institute of Certified Pubic Accountants in Ireland.
