Personal profile

Biography

My experience working as a Pharmacist in community and hospital Pharmacy highlighted the urgent need for better medicines to improve the treatment of chronic conditions. Motivated by this, I completed a PhD focused on developing new ways to deliver protein-based therapies to the heart, for use after a heart attack. Following this, I moved to the University of Galway to work on the development of medical devices for drug and cell delivery for cancer treatment. Seeking further research experience, I travelled to Boston to work in the lab of Prof. Ellen Roche at MIT, continuing my work on cutting-edge medical devices for drug and cell delivery. Currently, my research focuses on improving treatments for chronic conditions such a diabetic eye disease and hypertension, by creating novel delivery systems for medicines. This involves working with medical devices and biomaterials to improve their functionality. The goal of this research is to reduce the treatment burden for people with chronic illnesses, improving their quality of life.
