Joanne graduated with a First Class Honours from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2013 and began her clinical career in Podiatry with NHS Somerset and Diabetes Ireland (HSE, Cork). Her work with high-risk patients sparked a deep interest in diabetes-related complications affecting the lower limb. This clinical experience shaped her research focus on preventing diabetes-related foot disease, with particular attention to health inequalities and the impact of environmental factors, especially social deprivation.
Her PhD and postdoctoral research have primarily employed big data analytics to investigate disparities in diabetes-related foot disease outcomes within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Joanne now aims to extend this research to explore similar issues in the West of Ireland. She has recently joined the University of Galway as a Lecturer in the Discipline of Podiatric Medicine.
