Joanne graduated in 2013 from Glasgow Caledonian University. After qualifying she undertook clinical Podiatry roles within NHS Somerset, and Diabetes Ireland (within the HSE, Cork). Through working with high risk patients she developed a profound interest in the complications of diabetes manifested in the lower limb. This shaped her research interest in the prevention of diabetes-related foot disease, with a particular focus on health inequalities and the influence of environmental exposures mainly, social deprivation. Her PhD and postdoctoral researchhas been predominantly using big data analytics to explore disparities in diabetes-related foot disease outcomes within the health administrative area of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. She now hopes to investigate this from a West of Ireland perspective. Joanne has taken up a new lecturing positionwithin the discipline of Podiatric Medicine, University of Galway.
