Biography

Ms Machado is a PhD candidate at the School of Political Science and Sociology. She holds an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Water and Coastal Management, jointly awarded by the Universities of Bologna (Italy), Cádiz (Spain), and Algarve (Portugal), as well as a BSc in Environmental Management from the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Her academic and professional background is highly interdisciplinary, spanning environmental chemistry, renewable energy policy, science and technology studies (STS), transition studies, and community engagement. Júlia has conducted research in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Her published work explores subjects such as the politics of green hydrogen and the interaction between offshore wind energy and coastal tourism. She is committed to bridging scientific research and policymaking to advance just and sustainable energy transitions.

She is currently working for the Reserach Ireland funded project Tension points in the talent pipeline (TPTP) as a research assistant. https://www.ssrc.ie/tptp/
