Personal profile

Biography

Dr Guangxue Wu is a Professor in (Research Scholarship) Civil Engineering supported by Galway University Foundation at University of Galway. He commenced his position as a senior lecturer in University of Galway in January, 2021, and he worked as an assistant professor (2010-2014) and an associate professor (2014-2020) at Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, China. During July-September, 2016, he was a guest associate professor at Kyoto University, Japan.

His research activities cover fundamental research, technology development and policy support, with expertise in biological wastewater treatment, direct interspecies electron transfer in anaerobic digestion systems, autotrophic nitrogen removal, and sustainable development. He has co-authored over 160 peer-reviewed English journal papers, one monograph, one edited book, and 4 book chapters. He has received more than 17 professional awards, including several state and association science and technology awards in China. When working in China, he won more than 17 million CNY of industrial, national and international funding, and acted as PI for more than 20 projects.

Currently, his research is supported by EU, SFI, SEAI, etc. Especially, he is the Principal Investigator of the prestigious Science Foundation Ireland Frontiers for the Future Programme Award and the coordinator of the Marie Skodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks 2023 LeAD project (3.6 million with the participation of eight beneficiaries and five associated partners). He works actively in standard development both nationally and internationally. Specifically, he was the convener for the ISO standard: Water reuse in urban areas Guidelines for centralized water reuse system Part 1: Design principle of a centralized water reuse system (ISO 20760-1: 2018), and received the ISO excellence award in June, 2020 in recognition of his valuable contribution.
