Biography
Grace Attwood's primary research interest is in Latin literature, with a particular interest in Latin poetry of the early imperial periodand the reception and transmission of the Latin tradition in the pre-modern era. Her Ph.D. research, which was completed at the University of Galway in 2022, explored how Hiberno-Latin poets were influenced by Classical and Late Antique discourses on style and how their stylistic choices generate meaning in their texts. Currently, her research is focussing on Lucan's Bellum Civile , with a particular interest in Lucan's use of intertextuality and the texts reception in the Carolingian world.
Research Interests
Early imperial Latin poets (esp. Lucan); relationships between literary texts and Roman society; the transmission and reception of Latin texts; Hiberno-Latin; influence of Christianity on Latin literary style.
Teaching Interests
Latin language, Latin literature, Roman society and culture, Late Antique transformation of Classical culture, inheritance of Latin culture in Western Europe up to AD 1000.
