I specialise in the political theory of constitutional law, with a focus on sovereignty, referendums, judicial power and law and religion. I also have an interest in French political thought and particularly the doctrine of laïcité or constitutional secularism. I have authored forty-nine peer reviewed articles and I am author of Rousseau's Constitutionalism (Hart, 2017) and Law, Religion and the Irish State (2010). I am co-author with Tom Hickey of The Political Theory of the Irish Constitution (2015).
