Dr. Enda Murphy is a Postdoctoral Researcher at CÚRAM, University of Galway, where his work explores the relevance of physiological ketosis as an indicator of health improvements in individuals living with obesity and related metabolic disorders.
Dr. Murphy earned his BSc (Hons) in Sports Science and Health from Dublin City University in 2014. He subsequently served as a Senior Technical Officer in DCU’s School of Health and Human Performance from 2014 to 2022, supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. During this time, he completed his PhD, which examined how exercise intensity and muscle contraction frequency influence exercise responses, with a particular focus on energy expenditure, insulin sensitivity, and muscle metabolism.
Since joining the University of Galway as a postdoctoral researcher in 2022, Dr. Murphy has also completed an MSc in Obesity (2023). His research has contributed to high-impact publications in the fields of obesity medicine, structured lifestyle interventions, and pharmacotherapy. He leads the University’s Obesity Research Programme and serves as Research Coordinator for the EMPOWER (Endocrine, Metabolic and Psychological Outcomes in Patients With Obesity: Evaluating Responses to Different Treatments) and PROGRESS (Patients Receiving Obesity Care in Galway: Report and Evaluation of Specialist Services) studies. In addition to his research roles, Dr. Murphy also contributes teaching to the MSc in Obesity, with a particular focus on exercise physiology
