Dr. Eimear Dolan is a Royal Society Research Ireland University Research Fellow and Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering. Her research group are designing medical implants to improve the therapeutic efficacy and/or experience for people with living with long-term therapeutic needs. Their work comprises fundamental discovery and applied research. They use in vitro, in vivo and computational models to investigate their research questions and work at the interface of engineering and medicine.
Current projects include a Research Ireland Starting Laureate Award (€400k) developing novel implants and therapies for ovarian cancer, a Royal Society Research Ireland University Research Fellowship (€1.7 million) developing actuatable devices for Diabetes. She is leading an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund (€800k) developing an implant for heart failure. She is also funded by CÚRAM the Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices. She is an academic co-founder of Fada Medical building on two patent applications where she is co-inventor. She is a mentor on the BioInnovate Program.
Dr. Dolan has received multiple international and national awards for research excellence. In 2020 she was listed by MIT Technology Review’s Innovators under 35 list and one of ten global visionaries. Her work has been published in top journals in her field, in particular Science Robotics, Nature Communications, Advanced Science, Advanced Healthcare Materials. She has submitted patent applications and invention disclosures on innovations in medical technologies.
