Biography

Dermot taught at secondary level in the UK before moving to Ireland in 2003 to study for an MA in Literature and Publishing and then a PhD in medieval literature. He has also worked extensively in the fields of Adult Education and International Education, as well as ineducation consultancy. Dermot presently lectures in the Discipline of English at NUI Galway. Courses include Studies In Medieval Literature, North American Literature, Medieval Piety: Poetry, Play, Prose, Shakespeares plays and poetry, Renaissance Fiction, Fiction of Adolescence, Medieval Aesthetics, Service Learning, Literature and the Social World, and Reading (and Writing about) Literature. He is currently supervising PhD research in the field of mental health narratives and stigmatisation in modern literature and has supervised numerous MA dissertations on a range of topics.
