Deirdre Fitzgerald was appointed Lecturer above the Bar to the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Galway in June 2023. Deirdre has been involved in a locum capacity with the School of Nursing since 2015. She completed a Masters in Clinical Education in 2018 with the School of Medicine in the University of Galway. She recently stepped away from a 26 year clinical career to pursue her PhD. She has extensive clinical experience, including clinical education facilitation and management roles within Paediatric, Paediatric Cardiology, General ward and General Paediatric Emergency Care areas. She has been involved in Nurse Education since 2004, and is passionate about the care of children in all contexts of health care. Her PhD is exploring decision making between parents and professionals in relation to first school placements for children with complex disability.
