Biography

With a B.A. in Languages amp; Computing (French, German) and an M.A. Ed. in Digital Media Development from the University of Limerick, Danielle is an integral part of the Shannon College of Hotel Management for 22 years, in her roles as Lecturer above the Bar in German amp; IT and as Associate Head of Online Learning Developments. Herteaching portfolio spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses in German, IT for Business amp; Hospitality, and online modules Digital Competences, and Online Training Design, part of the Universitys Springboard (2022) and MicroCreds (2022-2025) offerings. She has been honoured with the Presidents Award in Teaching Excellence (2023), Deans Awards in Teaching Excellence (2023) and in Inclusive Teaching (2023, 2019), the European Language Label Award (2011) along with other peer and student nominations. Hercurrent research areas include the development of a Competency Framework for transdisciplinary learning products, exploring the benefits of solo learner environments in online learning, and identifying inclusive teaching techniques to mitigate German learner anxiety, for which I was awarded the Athena SWAN Mid-Career Lecturer Research Grant (2021). She has made significant academic contributions to conferences, as invited presenter and contributor in areas such as technology anxiety and the innovative integration of a range of different digital tools for teaching, learning amp; assessment and student engagement. She isactively involved in shaping developments in online learning at Shannon College through her Assoc Head role. Her leadership extends also to active participation in key committees such as EDI, LTAC, and the Curriculum Review, alongside her keen involvement with the national Business German Lecturers of Ireland (BuGI) group. Her community engagement is reflected in my role in the HEA #thinklanguages funding initiative (2024) to attract second-level learners. She maintains strong ties with industry, integrating guest speakers into her on-campus modules, and maintaining a strong professional development relationship with industry-partner, Flow Learning by Mapal UK, enhancing students practical learning experiences.

Research Interests

My research interests are generally in the areas of German for specific purposes, IT for Business, Technology for T amp;L, and the development of Online Learning Products. My current research focuses are in these areas:- Development of a Competency-Block Frameworkto support bundling individual Module-Blocks to form new transversal or transdisciplinary Learning Products (online assessed).- An Inclusive Teaching Approach (UDL) to develop a Font Treatment which alleviates all Symptoms of Anxiety for the 1 of 6 Students who experience these when reading German Text aloud in class. - Investigation into the benefits and impact of aSolo Learner Environment on online module completion rates.
