PhD projects

Research interests centre on the diagnosis, pathogenesis and management of functional adrenal tumours, both benign and malignant. The majority of this work investigates the development of novel methodologies for tumour ablation in the context of primary aldosteronism and benign adrenocortical adenomas.

Member of the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumour working Groups for Adrenocortical Carcinoma, Aldosterone Producing Adenomas, Phaeochromocytoma and Non Aldosterone Producing Adrenocortical Adenomas.

Retains links with the Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge

Collaborations with the Centre for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, University of Birmingham and Kansas State University.

Affiliated with the CURAM programme at NUI, Galway.

Biography

Dr Michael Conall Dennedy is a Consultant Endocrinologist at Galway University Hospitaland a Senior Lecturer in Therapeutics at NUI, Galway. He is a Galway graduate, completing a BSc in Pharmacology in 2000, MB, BAO, BCh in 2002, MD in Obstetricsin 2007 and PhD in Medicinein 2013. He trained through the HSEHRB National SpR Academic Fellowship Programme, anintegrated academic clinician scientist programme. Following this he completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Cambridge and Addenbrookes hospital. He assumed his current post in February 2014.His research interests centre on the pathogenesis and treatment of functional adrenal tumours, both benign and malignant. He is a member of the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumour working Groups forAdrenocortical Carcinoma, Aldosterone Producing Adenomas, Phaeochromocytoma and Non Aldosterone Producing Adrenocortical Adenomas. He retains links with the Institute of Metabolic Science,University of Cambridge and has forgedcollaborations with the Centre for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism,University of Birmingham. He is also affiliated with the CURAM programme at NUI, Galway and the Translational Medical Device Laboratory.He is the NUI, Galway director for the WellcomeHRB Irish Clinical AcademicTraining (ICAT)Programme and a co-recepient of this award. He is also the director of the undergraduate MBPhD programme at NUI, Galway. He is the Specialty Director for Endocrinology forthe Royal College of Physicians of Irelands,International Clinical Fellows Programme.

Research Interests

Research interests centre on the diagnosis, pathogenesis and management of functional adrenal tumours, both benign and malignant.
