Biography
Caitlin Burge (sheher) is a Postdoctoral Researcher with STEMMA: Systems of Transmitting Early Modern Manuscript Verse, 1475-1700 project at the University of Galway, using quantitative and computational approaches to study the circulation of early modern English poetry in manuscript form. She has a background in English, History, and Digital Humanities, and current research continues this cross-disciplinary approach, and seeks to apply digital approaches and methodologies to traditional historical queries, primarily in Tudor England.Having completed her AHRC-funded PhD at Queen Mary, University of London in 2022, she is currently working on her first monographusing network visualisation and methods from quantitative network analysis to consider the career of Thomas Cromwell, his fall from power, and the repercussions for Tudor political structures. It explores wider questions related to power in both historical and sociological studies, using Cromwell as a case study through which the role of letters as a social and political tool and questions about influence surrounding Henry VIII can be explored. She is alsocurrently working on Privy Council registers from the reign of Henry VIII, as well as encoded transcriptions of Thomas Cromwells letters, published with Early Modern Letters Online.Caitlin holds a BA in English Literature and History and MA in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies (both from University of York), and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg (2022-2024). She has taught undergraduate and associate English Literature at Queen Mary, University of London; masters Digital Humanities Coding at Kings College London; foundation year Data Studies at Anglia Ruskin London; and guest lectured on network analysis and other digital methodologies at the University of Luxembourg; Southern Methodist University, Dallas; andNational University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.Recent articles can be found in Huntington Library Quarterly, Journal of Historical Network Research, and International Journal of Humanities and Arts Computing.
