Biography

Dr Atif Shahzad is an honorary research lecturer and joint director of the Smart Sensors Lab,School of Medicine, National University of Ireland, Galway. He received BSc (honours) in computer engineering from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Pakistan, and MSc in electronic engineering from University of Leeds, United Kingdom. His research is focusedon sensing and thermal ablationtechnologies, medical device development, medical signal and image processing, applied electromagnetic, computational modelling, and dielectric spectroscopy. Dr Shahzadhas worked as a lecturer at COMSATS Institute of Informational Technology, Pakistan, from 2006 to 2011, where he developed and delivered undergraduate modules at the Department of ElectricalEngineering. He has also worked as a research staff in Computer Vision research group at COMSATS, where he developed real-time video processing techniques for vehicle recognition in forensic applications.He has received 14 national and international awards and is a member of COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Action MiMED and COST Action EMF-MED.Dr Shahzad has contributed to several research and innovation grants worth more than 4 .7m in past 6 years. He has published more than 75 original research articles, contributed to 6 medical technology inventionsand presented at top international conferences in the field of engineering and medical technologies.
