Biography
"What interests me about European Union law is that, although a vast subject-matter, its rules and processes, their implementation and enforcement have a huge bearing on the daily activities of individuals, companies and industry."
Anna-Louise Hinds holds a Bachelor of Corporate Law and an LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) degree from University of Galway and an LL.M. (European Law) from the College of Europe, Bruges. She was an Assistant Lecturer in Law for one year at Dublin Institute of Technology, where she taught Constitutional Law and Law of Tort before joining the Law School at University of Galway in 2001.
She was also an Associate Member of the Law School in the Law Society of Ireland from 2000-2008. Anna-Louise's academic interests include EU Law, Competition Law and Trade Law and she currently lectures European Union Law, Comparative Competition Law and International Trade Law at undergraduate level and EU Competition Law and Intellectual Property Rights at masters level.
She also acts as the University of Galway Director for the Annual Irish Universities Trip to the European Institutions. She is currently undertaking doctoral studies in University College Dublin on the topic of the European Commission’s Antitrust Procedures and the rule of law in ensuring effective enforcement.

Research Interests
Anna-Louises research interests lie currently in the area of competition law, particularly procedural and enforcement aspects of competition law and the extent to the European Commissions competition enforcement procedures respect principles of due process, the interpermeability of procedural and substantive rules of competition law, the impact of law enforcement on compliance with the law, regulatory theory and the issue of optimal law enforcement in the context of competition law. Anna-Louise has published a book on Competition Law with Thomson Roundhall, for which she obtained Millenium Research Funding from University of Galway. She has conducted joint research on the WTOs Doha Development Round, resulting in several refereed journal articles, and conference papers. In addition to these and other referred journal articles, Anna-Louise has presented at various international conferences.
